Jaime Fatás
Flamenco sin límites
In this piece, the saxophone reproduces the singing style of a flamenco “cantaor” (male singer). There are no bars since the music is conceived more as phrases and the interpreter should perform them with freedom, in an improvisatory manner. Use vibrato with generosity and as an expressive device (listening to flamenco “cantaores” as Camarón de la Isla, Enrique Morente, etc. is highly recommended. The use of vibrato and mellismatic singing, throat overtones, and other devices can be better understood through listening). Although originally conceived for alto, it can also be played on tenor or soprano.
